Customer Reviews for Orange Dulce

Orange Dulce

Orange Dulce black tea is a luscious, rich brew teeming with notes of orange, vanilla and jasmine blossoms. Made with Ceylon and China black teas, Orange Dulce brews up a fragrant and full bodied dark tea. Reminiscent of an aged Port, the flavor is sure to please.     • 4 oz. loose tea in bag     • 1 rounded tsp. per 12 oz. cup     • Makes 35-40 cups

Earl Grey with a different name...

Date:April 4, 2013
Cons: not accurately discribed.
"I bought this hoping for lots of citrus and jasmine but it looks like Earl Grey, smells like Earl Grey and tastes like Earl Grey. I'm not a fan of Earl Grey so you can imagine my disappointment."

Going Downhill?

Date:March 5, 2013
Cons: Bitter, Weak, blend not as good as before
"I bought this tea a couple years ago, and I really liked it. It was gently sweet and floral, with a creamy mouthfeel.
However, I just received my most recent order, and had a sample of Orange Dulce I wanted to try before getting a bigger bag, having read the slew of recent reviews.
Sad to say, this doesn't taste like the Orange Dulce I remember. It was somewhat bitter, and lacking in flavors other than black tea flavor. I even understeeped it at a slightly lower temperature (about 195-200F), and still, the bitterness!
It's hard to give this a true review, having only had the one sample this time and rendering experimentation with brew times and temperatures impossible. It wasn't completely terrible, but certainly not the Orange Dulce I fell in love with before."

Cons: poor and unusual taste quality
"I have been drinking Orange Dulce for about eight years. It is my favorite black tea. I brew it at a lower temp. to save the flavor of the oils. I brew with spring water that is here on my ranch. I was not happy with the taste of the 1# bulk tea. It tasted like a different brew altogether. I would not buy it again in this form. I'm giving some of the tea to my daughter who is also a big fan and we are both super tasters so she will give me more feedback. Please check your current batch. The tea does not have the flavor of orange, vanilla or jasmine. It has an undifferentated flavor that is not pleasent.
Sincerely, Mona

this batch, not so much

Delicious!

Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Whole Leaf Tea, Unique Flavor Profile
"My daughter gave me a teapot and various flavors of loose tea for Mother's Day a couple of years ago. My favorite was the Orange Dulce, and now I drink it almost every morning. Mmmmm, a nice leisurely cup of tea with the morning paper. That's as good as it gets!"

Beautiful Tea, but a Finicky 4oz

Date:April 7, 2012
Pros: Great Aroma, Smooth Body, High Quality, Whole Leaf Tea, Unique Flavor Profile
Cons: Bitter, Prefer Tea Pouches, Weak
"I tried this tea for the first time as part of the Mighty Leaf Variety pack. I didn't think I would like it: I HATE overpoweringly fruity, citrus-y teas (I wouldn't go near an Orange Pekoe, which I thought this would be similar to, but tried it anyway since ML had never disappointed me even with flavors I don't care for).
First thoughts upon tasting: "Wow... this is NOT Orange Pekoe in the least! It's DELICIOUS!"
It's closer to an Earl Grey (my daily drink), but a bit lighter, with a little more of that Bergamot flavor and something like caramel or vanilla undertones (The "Dulce" part that really makes this tea). This quickly became my favorite tea that I'd ever tried.
I'd say it's a dessert tea, but it's fantastic any time: especially after a long, tiring day. The smell makes you feel wonderful!
Alas, I haven't seen a box of this at Whole Foods in a while, and even when I did it ran ~$9. A bit much, so I tried ordering the 4oz loose bag, since I thought that'd be more economical.
Unfortunately, like another reviewer said, it's not quite what it was in the pouches... I'm not sure why, but suspect that sealing this tea right away & in small portions preserves those Dulce notes better.
I tried a few experiments: shook up the bag, tried brewing it for less time. This is a really finicky one ((thus my "pros and cons" selections seemingly contradict each other)) but I found that those things helped a bit & brought back that Dulce scent that makes it magical.
It does NOT handle the 4-5 mins suggested for black teas well — I'd suggest more like ~2 mins.
I'll have to get a pouch pack soon to compare these more scientifically. if it turns out that pouches really are better it'll be a shame to have to buy those every time as it's more expensive. But... worth it. I can't help it; no other tea brand makes anything remotely close to this!"

Orange Dulce

Date:March 20, 2012
Pros: Great Aroma, Smooth Body, Whole Leaf Tea, Unique Flavor Profile, like having desert
Cons: a bit pricey for me
"Orange Dulce is really good tea. With some honey and cream it's like desert. I just wish it came in a can or something other than a bag. Maybe for 1st time customers you can get a free tin or something, even if it's a small one, so you can store some of the loose tea in there and make it more convenient in the mornings.
I steep it for 4-5 minutes and have never had any problems with mesh strainers. It is so tasty, I usually have 2 of these a day. I wind up switching to the cheaper brands throughout the day since Mighty Leaf is a bit too expensive for my budget. I try to get more for my money buying it loose, but I still don't think I'll be able to afford it on a regular basis. But if I could, this would be the only tea I would ever buy. It is *that* delicious."

re-steep the tea
Posted April 27, 2012
Hi CharlieLiza,
I loved your review and thought I'd tell you something you probably already know so excuse me. You can steep the bags and loose tea at least 3 times. I do this everyday and it is just as tasty each time (okay, maybe the third steeping is not quite as good) Also, this reduces you caffeine intake. After the first steeping, the caffeine is negligible or zero.

My new favorite

Date:March 17, 2012
Pros: Great Aroma, Smooth Body, High Quality, Whole Leaf Tea, Unique Flavor Profile
"Kickin' black tea full of rich, luscious flavor. The orange and vanilla are nice contrasts, the jasmine a nice is subtle layer. I sampled once, then bought a full pound. It's my go-to tea in the morning when I want more flavor than basic black (and ML makes a great one of those, too). A bit bubble-gummy, which is a flavor I like."

"I had Orange Dulce in a tea bag and thought it was wonderful. The loose tea does not have the same flavor (at least to me) I will reorder, but get the tea bags instead of the loose tea."
