Ooh-La-Masala!

Date:March 5, 2009
Pros: High Quality, Unique Flavor Profile
Cons: doesn't quite live to its type of tea
"Given masala has a deep cultural significance in terms of its flavor, and refers more specifically to a gallimaufry of various dried spices that are centered around South Asian food and drink in general, I found it difficult to fault this particular truffle tea, even while the chocolate is more of a subordinate feature here.
I think this is, in essence, a type of tea that will be polarizing, depending on your liking for spicy notes or not. That said, while not necessarily a dessert tea to me, I nonetheless was enticed by the vigorous vim of cardamom that filled my nostrils and had me split-second daydreaming of jugglers, elephant rides and incandescent fireworks at a most lively Diwali festival. It may not be my ideal dessert tea, but it more than makes up for it as a high-quality chai-leaning tea and, when I added a slight splash of soy milk to it, it's more soothing than the vast crop of chai teas I've tasted.
In all honesty, I wouldn't recommend this tea to someone who's hankering for a holiday escape. However, I'd highly recommend it to anyone who relishes a more flavorful, pick-me-up type of tea in general! =)"

Nice herbal chai

Date:March 2, 2009
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Smooth Body, Unique Flavor Profile, Whole Leaf Tea
Cons: Weak
"As an herbal chai, this is a suitable blend. I can't particularly taste any chocolate but I wasn't going for that.
The reason I gave it only an average review is that you have to use more of the tea per serving, and it's only good for one infusion, so overall, it's expensive for what you get from it."

Disappointing

Date:February 5, 2009
Pros: Whole Leaf Tea
Cons: Weak, poor flavor balance
"I was really looking forward to this tea -- my local bubble tea place makes a chocolate chai, and I thought that it would be a match made in heaven.
Unfortunately, it turned out to be less than a thrill ride. The mix was extremely heavy on the cinnamon, even when shaken up repeatedly before scooping. The chocolate flavor was barely there, but that actually wasn't such a big deal. It was the mix of other spices, all too subtle to be tasted over the overwhelming cinnamon, that really disappointed.
My second brewing of this, I added cardamon pods to the brew, and then added chocolate to the end product, and it was better, but still crazily cinnamon-y. It needs to go back to the drawing board and get a re-balance, or else I got the end of the batch with all the giant chunks of cinnamon bark. Either way, not at all what I was hoping for."

Nice, exotic aroma

Date:February 5, 2009
Pros: Great Aroma
Cons: Weak
"The aroma of this tea is amazing. I was expecting the taste to be stronger and I'm not sure if I needed to put in much more loose tea... I even tried to boil the tea with water for about 10 minutes to get more pronounced taste, it helped only a little. I'd recommend this for its smell while dry, not for the liquid tea, since it is weak."

Too much masala, too little chocolate

Date:January 27, 2009
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality
Cons: not chocolaty
"A unique flavor but not too much chocolate. I would call it indian chai but without the black tea.
Still excellent, I just couldn't taste the chocolate."

Aromatherapy in a Tea Cup

Date:July 14, 2008
Pros: Great Aroma, Whole Leaf Tea
Cons: Weak
"This is yet another of of the chocolate truffle teas that I have enjoyed with my sister at a Chocolate Cafe in Philadelphia. Be it a cool evening or winter day, or a hot summer day or night, this tea is the perfect pick-me-up. While it is not an especially strong tea, it does have a wonderful aroma with a nice flavor. The herbal notes in conjunction with the chocolate undertones make this a light afternoon treat.
This tea is unique and calming.

Mystery tea of the exotic East

Date:July 10, 2008
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Smooth Body, Unique Flavor Profile, Whole Leaf Tea
Cons: want tea pouches and loose leafe
"This is a tea of intrigue. The longer it steeps the sweeter it gets. It is like a very mellow chai with the bonus of chocolate. It is pleasing to the eyes and nose before water is even added. My friends rave about it. I am enchanted."

Curb that craving with this tea!

Date:May 29, 2008
Pros: Great Aroma
"When I want to reach for dessert after dinner, I reach for my tea cup instead. Masala Chocolate Truffle is like a piece of choclate cake but without the calories! I love it and it curbs my craving for chocolate. It is like Mexican hot chocolate, but without the fat and sugar. After I drink Masala Chocolate Truffle tea, I am relaxed, very satisfied, and guilt free!"

Chai, anyone?

Date:May 21, 2008
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Unique Flavor Profile
"I mixed this with some loose rooibos tea that I had and I loved it. It has a great flavor for chai but not a strong taste of chocolate - which I actually liked. I tried another of the chocolate truffle teas and it wasn't what I expected. This tea, on a windy wet day, with a great book...absolute heaven!"

NOT for Chocoholics

Date:May 20, 2008
Cons: no chocolate
"What am I missing? THE CHOCOLATE! The only chocolate in this tea is in its name. All the other Truffle Teas have chocolate chips, cacao nibs, or carob. Why was Masala Chocolate Truffle so neglected?? This tea has the flavor of basic masala chai, but without the balance of black tea. If you haven't bought this tea; don't bother. If you already own it as I do, add a generous portion of good quality cocoa to the brew. It helps."

This tea is absolutely one of my top two favorites

Date:April 19, 2008
Pros: Great Aroma, Unique Flavor Profile
Cons: Prefer Tea Pouches
"This tea has a very unique flavor and is delicious. However, I prefer pouches. It really needs to be offered in pouches as well as loose tea."

Comfort in a cup

"Lovely cinnamon flavor with top notes of mild spice . A touch more chocolate flavor would be nice. But really is a perfect cup to warm you on these damp , cold wintery days."

mulled wine!!!

"I guess I already said it. Heat a bottle of cheapish red wine on the stove with a fist full of this tea, and add some honey (eyeball it). Fantastic after (during!) cross-country skiing outing."

Where Is the Chocolate?

Date:January 6, 2008
Cons: Flat
"I was disappointed in this tea. I tasted no hint of chocolate--or of anything appealing either. The tea tasted just like all the other chai tea bags I have rejected from supermarket shelves. I expected a lot more, based on the tea's description and Mighty Leaf's reputation."

Need to brew it with a black tea

Date:December 24, 2007
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Smooth Body
Cons: Prefer Tea Pouches
"It needs to be brewed with a black tea to get a real Chai flavor. It would be better if it were already mixed - could be bagged to keep the porportions correct."

Great taste, but...

Date:December 3, 2007
Pros: Great Aroma
Cons: Weak
"...it's somewhat light in body and feels weak. I've tried mixing it with the Organic Breakfast tea to add a little body to it, but I haven't been successful. I've also tried using more of the tea, but it ends up tasting too spicy without improving the body.
It isn't bad by any means, but just not my favorite. Even an average Mighty Leaf tea, however, is superior to most brands."
