Green Menghai Beencha Pu-erh, 1997

Green Menghai Beencha pu-erh tea is an aged pu-erh tea harvested in 1997, boasting a complex earthy flavor with a lingering sweet finish. Compressed into a tea cake or Beencha, like wine, the quality and taste will improve with age. A tea connoisseur's delight. Good for multiple infusions. The Beencha measures 7 ¼" across. 12 oz tea cake

Not a good first Pu-er experience

Date:March 6, 2012
"If you are a seasoned Pu-er drinker who is looking for a cheap Pu-er option this tea might serve you well.
It has nodes of a misty ocean compared to the often deeper 'musty farm' flavor of other Pu-er teas. It also doesn't go down quite as easily as other Pu'er teas."

Nice aged raw

Date:August 5, 2011
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, good storage evident
"This tea is a real bargain in an aged sheng puerh, as prices for older examples have steadily risen, as puerh has been increasingly discovered by the world outside of China. This tea takes a couple of steeps to come alive and out of its slumber, and thereafter shows that wonderful pinebox, earthy, leathery aroma and matching flavors. It is clean and shows good storage. Does well over 10-12 infusions. A complex, savory, amber-orange brew that does not disappoint. Enjoyable right now and over several years, while you wait for your young sheng to mature."

More a fan of the idea

Date:March 2, 2009
Pros: High Quality, Unique Flavor Profile
"I love the idea of these hard brick teas, but don't think I'm making them right. I probably need to rinse the leaves, as I saw done in China."

Steal this Tea

Date:November 24, 2007
Pros: High Quality, Great Aroma, Whole Leaf Tea
Cons: At an awkward age
"This is a serious bargain on a tea with a very good potential for ageing further, although as a tea to drink right now it is at an awkward stage and may be disappointing to people accustomed to young green pu-erh. I would recommend drinking this now in a guywan filled 1/2 with leaf and rinsed twice for just as long as it takes to get the water on and off again and then steep for 30-45 seconds for serving. This method should yield a good 7-10 servings. The important thing to remember is that setting this tea aside for 10-15 years will transform in to a lusciously smooth and delicious tea."
