Customer Reviews for Kyoto Rice - 4 oz

Kyoto Rice - 4 oz

Kyoto Rice green tea is our twist on a classic Japanese green tea blend called genmaicha. These rich, dark green Japanese loose leaf tea leaves blend with popped and toasted brown rice for a deep, brothy and nurturing infusion.     • 4 oz. loose tea in bag     • 1 rounded tbsp. per 12 oz. cup     • 4 oz bag makes 25-30 cups

"Wonderful strong tea. The Bergamot seasoning makes this seem more like a black tea. I love black tea but prefer the lower caffeine of green tea and with Earl Green it seems like I'm getting both!"

Unique Flavor

Date:October 4, 2010
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Unique Flavor Profile
"I bought this based on reviews alone. It sounded interesting. Green Tea with Rice! I did not think that toasted Rice would go well with tea. I was wrong. This is one great tea! Now it is one of our favorites. The combination is terrific! I would strongly recommend it."

too much earl grey flavor

Date:August 23, 2010
Pros: Whole Leaf Tea, Unique Flavor Profile
Cons: flavor too intense
"The oils that flavor the Earl Grey blend overpower this tea. I cut it with other teas for my own blend - usually Kyoto Rice or a roibios tea (or both)"

Great Simple yet Special Tea

Date:April 7, 2010
Pros: Great Aroma, Unique Flavor Profile, Whole Leaf Tea
"Let me start by saying that I never thought I was a green tea person. Something about the flavor just wasn't for me. But I've always loved the teas they serve in Korean, and some Japanese restaurant that have a light, toasty flavor mixed in with the green tea notes, so I bought this hoping it would mimic those flavors. It's perfect - fun to look at, delicious deep roasted notes, and a great aroma. And it needs nothing added, so it's perfect for those afternoons at work where I need a pick-me-up. With summer coming up, I'm curious to see if it works as well iced as it does hot! Highly recommend, especially to green-tea "novices.""

Incredible taste

Date:April 7, 2010
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Smooth Body, Unique Flavor Profile
"At first I was taken aback by it's appearance, the popped rice was comical. Little did I know that the combination of green tea, roasted rice and popped rice would have such a wonderful flavor. Before we would drink tea on occasion, with this tea, it's been every night after our dinner."

Watch what you purchase carefully

Date:February 21, 2010
Pros: nasty
Cons: nasty
"I don't believe the product I received was the intended mixture. It contained too much little-brown-grains and not enough tea.
It was nasty to smell and tasted the same."

LOVE IT

Date:February 18, 2010
Pros: Unique Flavor Profile
"Drinking this tea brings me to a relaxing place: memories of hanging out with family/friends in a Japanese restaurant. I've tried to recreate the tea on my own by roasting either rice or barley, but now I can purchase it here!"

toasty, nutty, wonderfully warm

Date:October 3, 2009
Pros: Great Aroma, Unique Flavor Profile, Whole Leaf Tea, satisfying
"Invigorating, head clearing, acorn crunching, warm-sweater wearing, and delicious. This tea tastes like the perfect fall day, and inspires the same urge to don plaid and write neatly on lined paper with freshly sharpened #2 pencils- to sit up a little straighter, pay attention, and really accomplish something. It has therefore become my patron Tea of the afternoon slump, year round. It never disappoints."

One of my favorites

Date:March 9, 2009
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Unique Flavor Profile, Whole Leaf Tea
"I tried this as part of the Japanese green tea sampler (which I enjoy immensely). I finished this one first and ordered a full bag. Has a delicious rice/nutty taste, although not as roasted/nutty as the organic hojicha (my other favorite).
I love the smell and taste"

Delicious Traditional Tea

Date:October 30, 2008
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Smooth Body, Unique Flavor Profile, Whole Leaf Tea
"After trying several types of "burned rice tea" this is suprisingly the best flavored tea and most like the ones served at high end japanese restaurants. This tea is better than the kind purchased at the japanese market!
The flavor is simple but delicious - with a nice rice/nutty flavor from the roasted rice. The underlying green tea is high quality with an excellent (clean) refreshing after taste
I prefer this tea in the evening and with dinner. It has a very calming and soothing effect"

a tea for all the senses

Date:October 22, 2008
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Unique Flavor Profile, pairs well with food
"The look, the taste, the feel and the smell of this tea are all perfect! It's one of the few teas that pairs so well with food especially any thing off the grill (meats or vegetables). An excellent blend of roasted flavors and green tea."

A lovely take on genmaicha.

Date:July 26, 2008
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Smooth Body, Whole Leaf Tea
"Genmaicha is one of my every day teas, and this tea does not disappoint. The tea and toasted/popped brown rice flavours blend well but can be a bit overwhelming if brewed too strongly."

Tasty, toasty experience

Date:July 12, 2008
Pros: Unique Flavor Profile, food-like quality
"This is a different, tasty experience. The toasted rice makes this taste more like a 'food' than a beverage and can often serve to fill me up when I think I'm hungry and am, in fact, thirsty. It pairs well with healthy snacks. I like it in the evening if I'm watching tv and I get a case of the munchies......seems like I'm snacking and doesn't have enough caffeine to keep me up."
