Mighty Leaf Tea Ratings and Reviews

Customer Reviews for Gyokuro

Gyokuro

Green tea from Japan, Gyokuro, also known as "precious jade dew" because of its unique blue-green color and naturally sweet taste, is the highest quality Japanese green tea . Made only with the earliest buds of the first spring flush season, Gyokuro usually grows in the shade for around 20 days before hand-harvested.  Due to reduced sunlight, less photosynthesis occurs resulting in increased amounts of amino acids. chlorophyll, and caffeine. This impacts Gyokuro's color, taste and aroma producing a sweet, delicate tea with a soft, mellow body. Please note that the ideal brewing temperature for this delicate green teas is 160F. Loose tea in 3 oz. bag

One of the best green tea's I have ever had...

Date:December 26, 2008
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Smooth Body, Unique Flavor Profile, Whole Leaf Tea, sweet aftertaste
"Gyokuro is amazing! I have had several version of this type of green tea and Mighty Leaf has proved to me that they can find the right match. From the harvest to the packaging of this fine tea.
I have purchased the loose tea and from presentation while brewing to enjoying each sip has been the best part of my morning.
As I drink the tea, the smell of to me seems like fresh morning dew fills my nose and I inhale and sip. My tase buds come alive with excitement. The tea's vegetal undertones are incredible and the sweet after taste is delightful. Thank you Mighty Leaf and I welcome any tea lover to give this tea a try."

Pros: Great Aroma, Smooth Body, High Quality, Whole Leaf Tea, Unique Flavor Profile
"Will only purchase Gyokuro from Mighty Leaf because of the
extremely fresh taste and price point. In my opinion, this is an outstanding example of the integrity of all Mighty Leaf teas
purchased to date.

Muddy Gyokuro

Date:October 10, 2011
Cons: muddy
"I recently tried a sample of Gyokuro from MightLeaf and from another supplier, a well known competitor. The competitor's tea was just lovely, very fragrant and delightful to drink and smell. The MightLeaf Gyokuro had an off smell and tasted muddy. I really couldn't imagine drinking it and returned it.
I hope this was just an off batch, as generally Mighty Leaf's teas are at least good, and some are very good. It is hard for me to imagine that the particular batch of Gyokuro I had passed anybody's quality control."

Looks fresh, Tastes "Blech"

Date:February 3, 2011
Pros: Whole Leaf Tea
Cons: Weak, unflavorful
"Please keep in mind that I'm not an in-the-know tea guy; I drink Constant Comment and am pretty happy.
After reading an article about "hacking your brain" and the mental boost really high quality Gyokuro can give you, I decided to try it.
I purchased this stuff, got it, made some tea and waited... and waited and waited. I felt nothing. No extra clarity, no super powers and no laser eye vision.
Joking aside, the tea looks really nice and fresh, it has a dirt/sweat smell to it when it steeps and the tea doesn't taste that pleasant. Not terrible or undrinkable, just like you are drinking leaves from your yard.
Added on top of that the lack of "umph" I felt after 3 days of drinking it a few times a day and the cost (ouch) and I'm just sitting here wondering what all the fuss is about.
Again, I'm a tea n00b... I know nothing about this stuff, steeping techniques, optimal temperatures to release super-power-causing elements and so on.
But as an average guy drinking this stuff, no thanks."

Eat your vegetables!

Date:April 13, 2010
Cons: tastes like veggies
"I was very excited about this tea. It was expensive, yes, but I loved the thought of the limited pick time and the early growth. I know others have liked this tea but it was too close to the taste of brusselsprouts for me. Seriously, it's really, really veggie tasting. If you like that - have at it. I'll stick with my other amazing Mighty Leaf teas."

Loved This Tea!

Date:November 18, 2009
Pros: High Quality, Smooth Body, Unique Flavor Profile
"Gyokuro from mightyleaf is delicious. I wish it wasn't so pricey though. I am going to try and find a less expensive tea as close to this one as possible. I would like to find a de-caf version of this as well. But, for my first green tea purchase ever, I wasn't disappointed. It's a treat. I add a teaspoon of agave nectar to sweeten it."

Best green tea you could order online

Date:May 25, 2008
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Smooth Body, Unique Flavor Profile
"A surprisingly great green tea which one could only find in Japan. But one should not brew it for more than 2 minutes. The hot water will cook the delicate tea leaves. One minute or a minute and half is the best brewing time."

Excellent tea

Date:February 23, 2008
Pros: Great Aroma, Smooth Body, High Quality
"This tea is truly exceptional and it’s definitely worth its high price. It is very important though, to prepare it properly. Let the hot water cool down a bit before poring it over it. This tea is such a high quality that its taste doesn't change even after making second and third cup out of the same already used leaves. This is definitely my favorite now."
