Customer Reviews for Sencha Deep Roast

Sencha Deep Roast

Green tea from Japan, Sencha deep roast green tea is a premium sencha green tea expertly roasted longer than classic sencha tea. In Japan, the style and method of roasting tea leaves differs, and impacts flavor. This Sencha deep roast green tea exhibits toasty notes but preserves the freshness and green taste of the leaf.  Please note in our brewing instructions that the ideal brewing temperature for delicate green teas is 160F.     • 4 oz. loose tea in bag     • 1 rounded tbsp. per 8 oz. cup     • 4 oz bag makes 25-30 cups

Excellent if brewed properly.

Date:May 11, 2009
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Smooth Body, Whole Leaf Tea
Cons: temperature-sensitive
"For me, this tea captures the essence of what green tea is supposed to taste like. It's pleasantly grassy but not bitter and has a smooth aftertaste. It's absolutely wonderful sweetened with raw (turbinado) sugar.
But--be very careful to steep this at the proper temperature. Mighty Leaf recommends 140-160 degrees. I generally use an instant-read digital thermometer to confirm this and try to steep at about 150 degrees. If you just guess at it and steep this tea at 175-180 degrees, it will take on a completely different, unpleasantly bitter taste."

Pros: High Quality, Whole Leaf Tea
"I suppose I would recommend this tea to someone who already like Sencha, but both Sencha and Matcha are a little too 'grassy' for my taste."
