Customer Reviews for Organic Lapsang Souchong

Organic Lapsang Souchong

Black tea from China, Organic Lapsang Souchong is a rich Chinese black tea made in the age-old tradition of slowly smoking leaves over natural pine tree roots. Made from large and thick leaves, Lapsang Souchong produces an intensely smoky brew that is considered to be a unique treat. A good tea for stimulating digestion.     • 4 oz. loose tea in bag     • 1 rounded tsp. per 12 oz. cup     • Makes 35-40 cups

Very unique

Date:March 6, 2013
Pros: Whole Leaf Tea, Unique Flavor Profile
"I didn't know if I would like this when I ordered it and my initial impression was that it was very intense. However, it is really growing on me. I can see this being a good tea with a rich/spicy meal or when I'm under the weather. I do feel like I've blown out my taste buds for the day, though."

bad!

Date:March 4, 2013
Cons: tastes like cigarettes
"Drinking this tea was like drinking someone's dirty ashes. Perhaps I do not have a refined palate when it comes to tea, but I had to throw it in the trash because it was so smoky tasting."

Good example of a fine tea.

Date:February 20, 2013
Pros: Great Aroma, Smooth Body, High Quality, Unique Flavor Profile
"This is not a tea for everyone but this example of Lapsang Souchong is an excellent one. Some might find it too challenging if the are used to mild teas.
The smoky aroma make me warm and comforted."

My first mighty leaf tea-wonderful

Date:February 12, 2013
Pros: Great Aroma, Smooth Body, High Quality, Whole Leaf Tea, Unique Flavor Profile, Relaxing
Cons: very easy to overbrew
"This tea is wonderful. The smokey aroma and taste are perfect for a chilly day. One of my favorites and mighty leaf has an excellent lapsang souchong. Be very careful with the brewing time."

Pros: Great Aroma, Smooth Body, High Quality, Unique Flavor Profile, comforting
Cons: easy to over-brew
"My only con with lapsang is that it can be over-brewed rather easily. It seems that a few seconds over can make all the difference in flavor--from unique and flavorful, to a tea that is bitter and strong enough to knock you on your back.
Other than that, this tea is wonderful! It's like sitting at an autumn bonfire, only in your mouth. Some might not appreciate the strongly smokey flavor, but it is truly a one-of-a-kind experience when it comes to tea. For those trying to kick the coffee habit, a strongly-flavored tea such as lapsang souchong would be perfect!"

campfire in a cup

Date:December 8, 2011
Pros: Great Aroma, Smooth Body, High Quality, Whole Leaf Tea, Unique Flavor Profile
"I love love LOVE this tea. I had never had lapsang souchong, but after reading it was smokey, knew I would probably like it. I will admit that the scent kind of punched me in the face when I first opened the bag. It made my kitchen smell like campfire (which I love). While the smell is strong, the taste is much more subtle and amazing. I'll probably order even more because I want to cook with it too... so many recipes that would benefit from that smokey amazingness!"

My most favorite tea ever

Date:April 12, 2011
Pros: Whole Leaf Tea
"I've been drinking this tea for a couple of years now. Love everything about it. It has a distinctive smokey smell and taste that some people don't like. But to me, it's the best tea out there."

The best!

Date:December 30, 2010
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Whole Leaf Tea, Unique Flavor Profile
"Mighty Leaf have pulled it off again and offer this Lapsang that, in my mind (or 'taste buds', I should say!), is by far the most superior of ALL Lapsangs that I've tried. The high quality, organic whole-leaves and expertly smoked finish lend a deep, toasty and wonderfully complex flavor to this tea. Great for long winter days and nippy summer nights."

My All-time Favorite

Date:November 16, 2010
Pros: Great Aroma, Smooth Body, High Quality, Whole Leaf Tea, Unique Flavor Profile
"Sipping a cup of Lapsang Souchong has become nearly as good as curling up by the fire with a good book, and sometimes it is a great addition to that activity. Up to now, I've been a lazy tea drinker, and while I love the silky fabric Mighty Leaf Tea bags, the whole ritual of brewing a pot of this rich smoky black tea is an extremely nurturing process for me. I love the little scoop that is packed inside the bag of loose tea. Thank you!"

A good smoke tea

Date:September 23, 2010
Pros: Great Aroma, Smooth Body, High Quality, Whole Leaf Tea
"While it doesn't have as strong a smoke flavor as I'd like the flavor is still very good. The tea doesn't get bitter quickly which is a problem with other smoked teas I've tried. If you like smoked teas this is a good bet."

my favorite so far

Date:June 14, 2010
Pros: Great Aroma, Unique Flavor Profile, Whole Leaf Tea
"I'm one of those rare Lapsang Souchong lovers - you either are or you aren't. It's not always easy to find, and some is pretty blah. I tried Mighty Leaf because there's is organic, but I love the big leaves. I look for a taste and aroma that reminds me of camel caravans with the smells of smoky fires and camel dung (well, maybe not) penetrating the tea, and I think this brand does it pretty well."

This might be an acquired taste

Date:December 1, 2009
Pros: High Quality, Smooth Body, Unique Flavor Profile, Whole Leaf Tea
Cons: some might be put off by the aroma
"It has a strong smoky flavor and aroma that might be overwhelming until you get used to it. It certainly adds variety to your tea tasting adventures. I could see it being very satisfying on a cold winters day, possibly on a foggy day in San Francisco or in the afternoon while skiing. With a bit of your favorite imbibe you would find this quite bracing, stronger and more flavorful than most teas."

Either love it or hate it.....

Date:November 6, 2008
Pros: Great Aroma, Unique Flavor Profile, Whole Leaf Tea, no one else in the house will touch it the stuff!
"No one is indifferent about this tea. Some folks are simply revolted by the 'wet campfire" aroma and never even try it. The loss is theirs.
I drink it as a coffee substitute, with a little cream and sugar.
my favorite!!!!"
