Customer Reviews for Mocha Truffle Pu-erh

Mocha Truffle Pu-erh

Our Mighty Leaf Mocha Truffle pu-erh tea  combines handcrafted small golden leaf buds to make this a rare and full-bodied tea from China's Yunnan Province. It is one of the most difficult of the pu-erh teas to produce. In the cup the tea is a deep amber color with a rich, smooth and savory flavor with a hint of cocoa, accented by additional cacao nibs and then balanced by the clean, sharp notes of citrus. Loose tea in 4 oz. bag

Disappointed

Date:April 13, 2011
Pros: Whole Leaf Tea, Unique Flavor Profile
"I have had a chocolate puerh that I liked very much. Sorry to say, this is not it. I think the problem is that it is mocha instead of chocolate, and I'm guessing it's not a very high grade of mocha. From reading the reviews I think this is one people either love or hate. I think I'll just throw it out... Please Mighty Leaf - give us chocolate!"

Good, Every Day Pu-erh

Date:December 1, 2009
Pros: Great Aroma, Smooth Body, Whole Leaf Tea
Cons: Weak
"This isn't the best of Pu-erh teas but given the recent popularity it is very affordable and very good. I drink it every day. My only disappointment is that the second and third cups really fall off in flavor."

Lovely stuff!

Date:October 5, 2009
Pros: Unique Flavor Profile, Whole Leaf Tea
"You really have to be a pu-erh fan to enjoy this. Lucky for me, I am, and I do! Don't count on this to satisfy a sweet tooth, though, it's more earthy and savory than sweet."

Not a great mix

Date:March 11, 2009
Pros: None
Cons: disgusting taste, moldy smell
"I've tried several different Pu-erh versions and I've rarely like the taste. I found my faith in Pu-erh with a Strawberry flavored Pu-erh which I've been devoted to. I decided to try this Mocha flavored one and believed that it would deliver a nice chocolate flavor. This was not the case.
Aside from the horrible smell before and after brewing, the taste lived up to the smell. With every sip, I gagged. I tried to stick with it to see if I'd get used to it with time....no. I even added milk....no. I finally poured it out and threw away the bag. Perhaps, it would have tasted better with a fruit combination. Chocolate does not work well with this type of tea."

There's earthy, and then there's this.

Date:January 29, 2009
Pros: Whole Leaf Tea
Cons: tastes like dirt, smells like a misstep along a dog walk, Smells like a Barn
"I sat down with this tea and immediately thought I'd stepped in something outside. I checked my shoes and, finding nothing, brought the cup to my mouth. It was the tea! (The person who wrote that the tea 'Smells like a barn' is being kind, in my opinion.)
After that initial shock, I waited a minute and decided to taste the tea anyway. After all, so many times aroma and flavor differ significantly. The taste was only slightly better: dirt.
There's earthy, and then there's Pu-erh. A recent New York Times article told of the Pu-erh 'bubble,' where growers and area residents got rich off this tea, which was supposed to be the 'next big thing,' only to have it all come crashing down on them. Maybe it's because people realized that it's really compost!"

A bridge into Pu-erh teas

Date:October 2, 2008
Pros: Great Aroma, High Quality, Unique Flavor Profile, Whole Leaf Tea
"Pu-erh tea can be an acquired taste for more traditional tea drinkers, and the Mocha Pu-erh Truffle tea bridges the gap between a flavorful black tea and the earthier notes of pu-erh. The coffee aroma is slightly startling, but once brewed it melds nicely with the other flavors. I've had my pouch for a while and the tea still tastes fresh."

Bitter, but has Caffeine

Date:February 14, 2008
Pros: Whole Leaf Tea, Great Aroma
Cons: Bitter
"Quite Bitter. I had to add cream and sugar to enjoy, which I am not opposed to doing since it has caffeine and prefer tea to coffee in the morning. However, I do not like this tea as much as others."

Wonderful complex flavor

Date:January 28, 2008
Pros: Unique Flavor Profile, High Quality, Whole Leaf Tea, Smooth Body
Cons: Not for everyone
"I really liked this tea - very complex flavor that made me want to take time and ponder. It seems to leave a warm earth sensation in my entire mouth that was very pleasant and exotic as I am not too familiar with Pu-erhs. I am someone who likes complex teas and wouldn't necessarily serve this to anyone. That said, my husband, who's not as much into tea, did like it and oddly preferred the aroma to the other caffinated chocolate truffle teas. I think this is my favorite tasting of these, and I love all three."

Smells like a Barn

Date:November 11, 2007
Pros: Unique Flavor Profile, Whole Leaf Tea
Cons: Smells like a Barn
"I must admit, as much of a tea enthusiast as I am, I had never had Pu Erh tea before. The cup smelled like a barn, which I could not get over. I enjoyed the taste of the tea fairly well, but could not overcome the barnyard smell. I will have to give Pu Erh another try, as I can't stand to think there is a tea out there that I don't LOVE, but it was definitely not love at first taste."

Chocolate heaven!

Date:August 16, 2007
Pros: High Quality, Whole Leaf Tea, Great Aroma, Smooth Body
Cons: No cons
"I am a Pu-erh lover. This is probably one of the best flavored pu-erhs I have ever tried. Well done Mighty Leaf! I don't want my cup to end. It's delicious, smooth, creamy, and simply perfect. It's like drinking dessert! I prefer mine with some sugar and vanilla soy milk. It's the perfect balance of flavors."
